Travel Dilemma for Chinese Student

Having come back from Travel Break, i felt that travelling around while studing abroad is a dilemma for Chinese student.

On one hand, most Chinese students are not economically independent. That is to say, their main money resouces are their families. You can argue that they can take some part-time job, but that is far from enough. So their travelling put a heavy economic burden on their families. Especially at this time when China is in its transition period. The exchange rate for Chinese currency Yuan is much lower that other foreign currency. That means the competitiveness of Chinese people is not so high. As China's economy is still in the beginning period, a big appreciation of the Yuan will probably cause a lot of unemployment in the society, thus affect the stability of the society. So the Chinese government will not allow the market to determine the exchange rate of Chinese currency as some American politician expected, at least in a few years. As a result, economically, Chinese student will largely rely on their parents' income and domestic saving.

On the other hand, you will benefit a lot travlling as a student. First because you are young. Youth means energy, youth means curiousity, youth means ambitiouness. You can meet a lot of young people at about the same age with you on the trip. That's a great opportunity to establish friendship with great people from all over the world. Second, you can get some discount as a student. For example, you can get a lower entrance fee by showing your student I.D. you can live in some really cheap youth hostels, which will save you a lot of money. Third, while travelling, you can learn a lot of things. That is exactly the main task of students. You will also have chance to see what you have learned, which makes you feel you have really learned something. I promise you will feel great when you can use the knowledge you have learned to analyse what you see. The most important thing is, the more you travel, the less you feel you know. It will motivate you to learn more. My teacher Line has a classical sentence, the moment you start your trip, you have changed and you will never change back.

So, i hope those Chinese students studying abroad work hard. If you don't have the chance, please enable our children to travel abroad on themselves.
